Book launch of Gineceu&Estigma

The publication Gineceu&Estigma is the result of the programme of the same name, an axis of knowledge and mediation based on the Botany of the Gardens of the Palácio de Cristal, as part of ping! - Programa de Incursão à Galeria, an educational project of the Galeria Municipal do Porto. The contributions collected here, as well as the activities that have been presented over time, show different ways of establishing fairer relationships and approaches to the natural world. This book is not just a memoir, but an extension of a project that is constantly expanding and developing. Divided into four chapters - Especulações Botânicas, Micorrizas, Hackers&PANCs and Terrários - it shows an eco-thinking that runs through both theoretical reflection and practical educational actions, through workshops, essays, lectures and interpretive routes.

To celebrate the fourth anniversary of Gineceu&Estigma, the launching day will take place on February 7nd, with the participation of Ellen Pirá Wassu, writer and indigenous artivistPaulo Pires do Vale, philosopher and commissioner of the National Arts Plan, and Matilde Seabra, coordinator of ping!, for a conversation about the relationship between human life and nature.

Workshop: Bio-Matter-Lab, with Paula Pin

DIY+DIT workshop on bioplastics and other biomaterials
With Paula Pin

The Bio-Matter-lab workshop, proposed by Paula Pin, shares the potential of new and more environmentally friendly materials such as bioplastics. The experiment will take place at CyanoVan, a nomadic science laboratory that has travelled the world and will now be parked in the Gardens of the Crystal Palace. Based on the logic of learning by doing and in a collective DIY+DIT (Do It Yourself + Do It Together) approach, the process involves cultivating biomaterials and understanding the applicability of bioplastics. The conclusions and opinions will be recorded in a fanzine.
The practice of artist and activist Paula Pin combines science, biology and queer identities in the creation of projects that take the form of interactive sculptures, installations, performances, walks and laboratory experiments, in which the body relates to the world in unusual ways. Pin organises techno-feminist workshops and has been collaborating since 2012 with the extensive bio-hack network Hackteria, which unites body and nature. Pin has collaborated with institutions such as CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research), Geneva; Bergen Assembly; Hangar, Barcelona; and KASK, Ghent. She has recently been invited to sound and noise workshops and has presented concert-performances.

Participation in the workshop is free of charge, with prior registration. Attendance at all project activities is mandatory.

Participants will be selected in order of registration, via email to galeriamunicipal@agoraporto.pt.
