Fogo Fátuo October 2025

Fogo Fátuo (will-o'-the-wispis an event dedicated to art in motion — a meeting space for different languages, geographies, and traditions. Each edition of Fogo Fátuo offers a dynamic programme that encompasses intimate acoustic performances and immersive audiovisual experiences, showcasing the breadth and richness of performative and sound-based artistic practices.
This new edition of Fogo Fátuo is entirely dedicated to the work of Alex Baczyński-Jenkins, offering an immersive two-day experience of this artist and choreographer's universe.

The programme is presented by Galeria Municipal do Porto in partnership with Teatro Municipal do Porto, where Baczyński-Jenkins will also present two additional choreographies.

Galeria Municipal do Porto will host Unending love, or love dies, on repeat like it’s endless, a choreographic reflection on desire, fragmentation, love (as communality), loss and time. The piece manifests relational forms of being-with and for one another. Until a thousand roses bloom (with Warsaw in the background), undertakes the charge of eroticism, queer longing and pleasure that might recall situations alternately between friends, lovers, strangers.

At Teatro Rivoli, the programme features Untitled (Holding Horizon), a performance with shifting perceptions between a memory of a rave, a ghostly gathering, a militant congregation and a pastoral imaginary. Malign Junction (Goodbye, Berlin), a piece dedicated to the theme of finitude, navigating capture, movement in relation to power and a broken promise.

GET TO KNOW: Alex Baczyński-Jenkins

Alex Baczyński-Jenkins is an artist and choreographer engaging with queer affect, embodiment and relationality. Through gesture, collectivity, touch and sensuality, his practice unfolds structures and politics of desire. Relationality is present in the dialogical ways in which the work is developed and performed as well as in the materials and poetics it invokes. This includes tracing relations between sensation and sociality, embodied expression and alienation, the textures of everyday experience, the utopian and latent queer histories. He approaches choreography as a way of reflecting on the matter of feeling, perception and collective emergence, while indulging in other ways of experiencing memory, time and change. He is co-founder of Kem, a Warsaw based queer feminist collective focused on choreography, performance and sound at the interface with social practice. Through various experimental formats and community building, Kem engages in critical intimacy and queer pleasure.

Alex Baczyński-Jenkins: Unending love, or love dies, on repeat like it’s endless

Unending love, or love dies, on repeat like it’s endless is a choreography that reflects on the relations of desire, dance, love (as communality), loss and time. The work dwells in the states of perception at the threshold of mourning, hope and celebration. A radiant listening that stems from grief and contends with witnessing the state of transit from life to death. Meanings and perceptions, swell, undo and fragment while the choreography undertakes the invention of micro-grammars of connection. The piece manifests relational forms of being-with and for one another, in spite of and in resistance to overwhelming architectures of violence. The work is performed in various constellations, between one to four performers.

Alex Baczyński-Jenkins: Until a thousand roses bloom (with Warsaw in the background)

Until a thousand roses bloom (with Warsaw in the background) engages with the potential of desire, eroticism, sensuality, and touch. A choreography composed of gestures of erotic charge that might recall situations between friends, lovers, strangers. Bodies assemble in relations that never settle, always becoming, imbued with a sense of queer futurity.

The work includes a billowing, suspended red fabric, a prop for burlesque performances, bringing to the foreground sensuality and reflecting on the ephemerality of queer gestures.

The repetition of Urzula Sipińska’s 1971 titular ballad Until a thousand roses bloomfolding onto itself in loops, saturates the space with a nostalgia not for the past but for what remains possible.

Flowers grow always and everywhere, there where they will thrive.”

Cruising is taken as a mode of close attention to the modulations and gestures of longing, through repetition and temporal suspension. What is being cruised here is desire and eroticism itself.
